Bentley Goes to the Vet

Tuesday, October 12th, 2010

So it’s beyond 6 weeks already, can you believe it? Six weeks ago we were running after a very fast limping stray and were told that he should rather be put down when we didn’t know what to do! And so here we are!

Bentley was so well behaved in the car. He even walked himself into the Vet’s office. While we were waiting he was whining at me almost talking asking what’s this place asking for reassurance. The Vet recognised him and couldn’t believe that it was the same dog. He is so impressed with the recovery. He said it is so sad that more people don’t just give dogs like this a chance with just a little bit of patience and care. The Vet said that the bones were at fusion stage and that he can see a full recovery within 6 months which may even take his limp away. Bentley got his first immunization, was such a good boy, he just sat on the table waiting for us to finish talking. Vet recons he really is only about 4 years old and that the worn down teeth is from a hard life of scraping what they can off roads and rocks.  He then walked himself out back to the car. Shame poor boy must’ve felt a tad car sick towards the end of our journey as he threw up all his breakfast!

I’m so proud of him, can’t believe we made such a difference to his life. Now all we need is a loving home that will take care of him like we do or even better.

I stumbled upon this information while searching about mushrooms as my little one got so excited this evening while I was cooking mushrooms. And I’ve noticed her eating mushrooms in the garden before which I’ve freeked out about but what can you do. I try now to look for new sprouts. But all this info below is startling, really something too many of us don’t know…

Bouncing Bentley

Sunday, October 3rd, 2010

Well boy oh boy is Bentley doing well. So well that we have to put a harness on him so that we can control him otherwise he slips and slides and bounces around out of excitement. He misses his adopted pack when he is in his recovery room and whines until he falls asleep. It breaks our heart but we just can’t at the beginning of his 6th week of recovery jeopardize his healing.

It’s genuinely remarkable how he has changed from that sad looking old boy ready to give up to the springchicken acts he now pulls. Sometimes the thought that we were his only life giving chance makes me scared, so many others like him don’t make it. But let’s not dwell on what ifs.

His appetite is raging. He has never had any digestion problems even though research showed that these types of injuries could complicate things. He listens quite well, when he wants to like any other furchild as well we know. Still very obedient and sits for his food.  We’re looking forward to his 6 week checkup so that we may find out for definite how well he is really doing and push forth to find him a good home.
