So today marks the beginning of week 3, half way through recovery. This dog amazes me every day. In such a short frame of time he has got meat on his bones, his coat is soft and shiny almost altogether covering the big gashes on his side, he eats well, sleeps well, is excited to see us and the pack and has just displayed the ‘my yard my yard’ show piece when street people walked by a little too close to ‘his’ pavement. He is so well behaved not messing in his room. The only thing that gets me down is the fact that he seems to prefer a couch to the dog bed when he socialises with us. Also heartbreaking is that he so wants to be with us and the pack but all the excitement and running or walking around makes him limp more. Shows us that we must be strict with his recovery otherwise it could mean a whole lot more effort and cost and pain later on. I think we have also just got rid of the worm issue after a major dose of medicine.

All in all nothing much to report. Progress is good. We’re praying that the bones are doing their job of repairing themselves, hopefully a good diet is adding to the recovery.

Snapshots of the Pack

Today everyone was full of fun and games. Lola and Tux were chasing each other around the house full steam all night long. Picture of Lola here under blankey was on one of her breaks, she had wormed herself under it like that. So flipping adorable when they do that. Tux (shiny black baby) decided that it was soccer man’s turn to get chewed on. Bentley (full couch pic) decided to make himself very comfortable on the coach, amazing how quickly these critters adjust. Poor Kodi (closeup portrait – dad really likes to zoom in close) is still skittish of this new monster in his house, so he keeps to himself a bit. They are all thankfully healthy and being very good little children. Well except when the neighbours dogs keep barking and they take it as a sign to run and bark all over the house and yard and back again like a race track.

Spring Fever 2010

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Seems like I have Spring Fever….I can’t sleep and all I want to do is clean, organise, throw away and minimise clutter. Even this morning although feeling dizzy, huge headache and general aches and pains I managed to lug around huge pieces of wood outside in front garden and make some pretty features. Chris had a made a tower out of paving bricks and placed a plate inside the column for the bird seed. The structure looked so lonely that I placed some logs in a chair like position with pot plants and a garden gnome on it for decoration. It looks quite nifty if I do say so myself. Scary thing was to see how many creatures were living in amongst those paving bricks, scorpion to name but one! Eeeeek. I’ve also repacked the garage a bit, watered the back garden flowers and done some washing.

Yesterday and day before I vacuumed and mopped both floors. Repacked some boxes in spare room. Reorganised Bentley’s room to look neater and more comfortable. Washed and recovered our bed. Cleared away mess around bath…..can’t remember what else. All I know it’s been three days of hard work. And there’s still the bathroom vanity I want to repack. Top floor spare room. Clothing cupboard. Throw out some old clothes. AND then eventually I suppose I must do some real work to get accounts and paperwork  up to date. I think I’m doing all this other stuff just to avoid that! Ug. A woman’s work is never done…

Wowee how time flies! It’s been a few days since an update and remarkable progress has been made.

Today he got a wash. He did NOT enjoy it one bit. One can only imagine that he has never actually been washed, although he didn’t look too bad except for loads of oil covering his fur. He at least didn’t try to bite which is a good sign but the poor thing was shivering like crazy. We organised the heater for him by his bed and that helped comfort him.

He’s been showing more signs of excitement which is so heart warming. He totally recognises me as being the food bringer. I’ve cut down his three hourly feedings to now only twice a day like the others and he seems to be coping real well with it. He’s also only eating dry pellets now and is enjoying it. He actually started getting fussy and would leave the rice and eat the pellets instead. Very interesting how quickly they become fussy and particular. I could only laugh.

Chris had been taking our pack out one at a time over a few days and then eventually all together. I must say I am very proud of my pack, they behaved wonderfully. Bentley was not liking the idea at first but now he shows signs that he can’t wait to be with them. So amazing to see. But he gets way too excited and it could jeopardize his recovery. So he is still isolated for his own good. And I’m still worried about worms and parasites. I’ve cleared the room we makeshifted into an isolation ward. He has access to the full room now and has a comfortable bed and toys. He’s really a very good boy but at this stage doesn’t respond to commands or his name, obviously, so it is a bit difficult to communicate with him. Time will tell….

When in Rome…

when in romeWhat a surprisingly good; full of humour, cute movie. I really enjoyed this light hearted well written story.

It’s not really THAT different from any other romantic comedy. Girl meets Guy. Girl and Guy fall in love but they don’t tell each other. Lots of playing hard to get. And then bam you have a wedding.

But I must say the way it was written should be commended. There were literally times where I was cracking up with laugther but there was also a cute little story behind it, not just fluffy stuff.

And it was real good to have such excellent eye candy to look at….Fergie is one lucky lady!
